Does this version of xhtml offer anything different to the other versions of XHTML?

Yes, the XHTML 1.0 Mobile profile has been specifically created with the intention of people using small devices such as mobile phones. However be warned that support for this profile amongst mobile browsers is scattered at best and you probably will be more successful using standard XHTML 1.0 Strict with a CSS @mobile media type declaration for wider support (even though this again has limitations and scattered support by devices).
