My Wordpress Blog is getting spammed

The same user name and ip keeps spamming my blog with his comments.

Banning by IP is not a particularly good idea. You never know how many people you are inadvertently blocking as a side-effect.

Also, if he has taken control over somebody else's computer, blocking the victim will not help, the attacker will just move on to somebody else.

Your best bet is to install Akismet.

    Akismet works good.

I have had articles of my blogs get spamed by the same robot like 3 times a day so finally I would just change the url address of the pages so the robot couldn’t hit it anymore.

90+% of spam will be blocked by Akismet. Start with that.

If you want to block by IP, you can simply put the IP in your comment blacklist (dashboard->settings->discussion) or you can use your .htccess to block the IP. You can also add lists of words and phrases in the comment blacklist to block vulgar or spam comments.

Akismet is not worth the trouble if you know how to effectively use a comment blacklist.

Akismet is included in Wordpress now. All you do is sign up for a key to use it and paste that key into the settings page. That is all you do. Nothing else.

By blocking by IP address you don't know who you are actually blocking. You also don't know how many people are also using that IP address who will not be able to use your site.

Using Akismet is much, much easier than maintaining your own blacklist. Or of course you could always combine the two.

The only disadvantage this one has is that it requires javascript and cookies to be enabled.

And although the site states "Almost 100% of web site visitors will have these turned on by default," the numbers I have heard put it between 5 and 10% of users have javascript disabled.

Maybe in IE but not in firefox... I don't see any good in disabling java anyway..

Akismet is good for this kind of dilemma Anyway, you can also contact the the spammer through e-mail and let him know about your thoughts.

You really need a spam blocker like Akismet. Once plugged into Wordpress this anti spam is all you will need with a lot of patience. Spammers are like terrorists, they attack the innocent!

I use a combination between Akismet and the moderation system of intense debate. It works perfectly for me!
