    Health Conscious

    Hi,

Does anyone here take a multivitamin? My doctor recommended to take one and I forgot to ask, what brand is the best. So many out there.

Branding is mostly just that, branding. Take whatever is available in your local shops. Unless you live somewhere with no trading standards, then it should hzve what it says on the label inside. I use my supermarket ones (in the UK that is Tesco).

First, all the stuff related to the brain, even if it is to help concentration, should be taken carefully and I hope that you asked your doctor about it who should be answering this question anyway. We are not experts.

Second, mixing vitamins may not be a good idea. Some vitamins (like Vitamin C or B) are not storaged by the body and any excess will eliminated, so they are not a problem. Others can be dangerous if you take too much of them since the body will keep the excess and it will add up.

At the end of the day, you should talk to your doctor and ask him.

From what I've read we end up just peeing out much of the contents of these multi-vitamins and we'd be better off just eating better.

multivitamins are very good in case of physical or mental effort, for children and pregnant women, when there are proven deficiencies...
these supplements should be taken after talking to a doctor to know for sure the benefits but also the risks.
though a healthy diversified nutrition would be the best alternative to multivitamins

I like to take vitamins but sometimes I think that it should be better to take some natural foods instead.

I agree with what modern 314 said. Artificial supplements like tablets and medicines might help you to an extent. But nothing can beat vitamin rich natural foods.

Nowadays i take evening oil (almost same with multivitamin) and recently tea green tablets which recommended by my wife's friend in Australia. It's main function is to clean/reduce poison substances from your intestine.

Chemists know better. You need not have to ask the doctor everytime.

same here no vitamins only fruits, but lately since I've been doing work and school stuff I'm taking vitamin C..but I think you need to consult your family doctor or someone who is medically expert who can provide you exactly what is supposed to be good for you.

For me instead of taking vitamins, I would rather take the natural way which is eating fruits & vegetables. Sometime it is not advisable to take oral vitamins for a long period of time because it has also side effect on our body.

NY Times: News Keeps Getting Worse For Vitamins

Seems to say that vitamin supplements either don't help or increase your risk of death and disease.

I agree with you, colloidal minerals and vitamins are best absorbed with foods.

Just eat a balanced diet! If you read the adverts, the vitamin manufacturers say "may help preganat women and blah blah blah...." basically saying, if you are a normal healthy person, it wont benefit you at all.

I couldn't agree more. Natural foods will always be the best source of nutrients that our body needs more than any artificial pills
