are mobo and cpu combos a good idea, like at pricewatch.com? Or should I buy them seperately, i'm not too experienced in hardware though. Yet I want quality machinery.
yes a combo is usually how stuff like these are bought... if you go anywhere (well at least most places here do) and look at their pricelist, they sell CPU's and mobo's as a combo at lower prices... and since they recommended it, it's at least guaranteed to work...
however, if you want to get the best out of your cpu, you may want to do some research on the mobo to see if it's a good one and not some cheapskate discount mobo...
Yeah, also many companies offer to test the motherboard with RAM and a processor (all that you buy of course). This would have been extremely handy last May when I was sold a non-working motherboard, dead on arrival. After many hours of frustration and trying out some things (and a post here at SF), I concluded the motherboard was bad.
