Why don't most blogs have a "reply" feature?

Why don't the comment sections of most blogs have a "reply" feature?

I'm not asking because I necessarily feel there should be one but rather as a website developer, I'm curious if this is something I should incorporate into my company site's blog.

The other day, someone in my company had mentioned it would be great if we had a "reply" link on each comment, similar to how youtube set thier comments section up. I didn't give a yes or no answer because I honestly wasn't sure if there's a legitimate reason why most blogs don't do replies.

Is there perhaps a concern replies lead to too much back-and-forth arguing? Just curious.

It could be to keep spammers away.

coz u have to install specific plugin for it - Threaded Comment.

So, most of the blogger have no time for it or just does not want to waste time for it although personally i think it is important to encourage participation among readers.

That's why i have it in my blog (n_n)

Threaded comments take more overhead than a linear structure and most developers don't want to deal with the added functionality.
