I'm assuming filters = hacks?
Do we also assume CSS unrecognised by IE6 are also hacks? Or no? I should have asked first.

I was wondering that too: does the technique (star hack) count as a hack because it has the word "hack" in it? Can you make a quick list of what we can use
?

Hi,
I don't really mind what you use if you are trying for level 6 as long as the solution is interesting. However the winners of level 5 will be the ones that don't need hacks or alternative code to work in all browsers.
The solution that Erik and I have used is css at its basic level with no hacks needed and the same code is applied to all browsers including IE6. There are no advanced selectors needed and no code hidden from one browser or another.
The key to get this is to work out how to get the transparency in IE6 using the method I suggested in the clue I gave earlier.

Ok. Since I messed up and went crazy with the last one because I didn't read the instructions properly, I am in for this one. I will not be able to do anything till wednesday, but I definately going to give it a try. It is an interesting idea.

just gave in my try at 12B
not as easy as it looks.
eagerly awaiting to see the entries.
p.s. still trying to make the sitepoint logo image thing into a fully css image, because that would be really cool, especially if browsers will support css3 someday...
edit: lol i was refreshing page 1...
@Stomme poes and @RyanReese
paul wants results that work in all browsers using the same css, i mean, all browsers should see all the css.
its not really hard, a little of geometry, and a little of reading certain websites.
although the transparency in IE6 does require a little clever trick.

I can't hide my delight!!! I've done 12b and now I am well on the way to getting 12a sorted. It's been a good day for css, I see things much clearer now.
Good on you Paul.

Fun. I just submitted. If #6 can ignore IE6, then I shot for that (I did use one CSS3 selector); otherwise, I guess I'll settle for getting to #3
I also tried to make it as slim as possible..

Just received another entry from Simon (zcorpan) that uses CSS transformations. It needs a bit of work but shows what's possible.
Anyone else want to try

Heh, looking at the obvious setting in the steaming pile I ran across, it looks like it might be a simple change of terms... if I have time I'll test it, cause if it's what I'm thinking it is, I'll prolly bean myself in the head a few times and lose some hair. I hate when it's something stupid/silly esp if it's one word : )
