I remember reading something a guy with a similar outstanding skillset said. Something along the lines of:

If your site is fantastic, then clients are gonna be suspicious - think you've got too much time to design it etc. However, if you have an average (!) site then they'll think you're too busy to design a whizzbang site.

Well I'm off to install FrontPage 3.1

Huge logo at the top of the page made with obviously the latest and greatest graphics proggy, and "The Counter.com" Button aside, my fav is the nav at the bottom of the page "Home | Back | Reload | Forward"
Home: aren't we already there?
Back: Hey, at least it gives you the option to go back to where you came from, which I imagine is what most people want to do after seeing the first page.
Reload: Are they kidding?
Forward: Are they kidding? On second thought, lets move forward, to another site.

The only thing it's missing is a flash "Click to enter" page. laughing so hard, I am crying
