Arrow The Most User-Friendly Image Gallery?

I want to showcase some artwork on the website, but the image gallery has to be very easy and straightforward to work with. No complicated updates, fancy scripts, anything like that - just install, upload photos and go.

I'd like a photo gallery that lets people share the photos with friends and optionally comment or review them if possible. Is there a certain one you'd recommend?

I have used Coppermine for this. It's open-source, fairly easy to setup (assuming you have basic server skills and access to a server) and can be skinned with a widely available # of cool looking templates. I do have some issues with it, namely the batch upload scheme, however for single file uploads it's a breeze. The system allows users to rate/comment and even send the image as an E-Card. I've got it setup for my Daughters photo site, see it at myalovesyouDOTcom , you'll need to Register, it just takes a second and access is instant. Hope this helps!

P.s. If you are using Wordpress, the NextGen Gallery Plugin is very nice- although no ratings or comments.

I've heard good things about Coppermine and it looks really flexible. Does it require a lot of updates or know-how to use on the front end?

I haven't needed to update the software yet, and I've been running it since last summer. You can register/log in to the site (myalovesyouDOTcom) to check out the User Interface. I love that users can send an e-card with the photo and comment/rate each. If you know some PHP, theres plenty more you can do to configure it to suit your needs. It's Open Source and easily modified. I'd keep backups for any changes you implement, though.

You can try 4images also. It is very adaptable to how you want to use. One of my dating sites galleries uses 4images, but it is meant more for displaying images v.s. dating gallery. You can send postcards of the images to friends and many other nice features. Simple to install and use. Many templates for it.

I have CPG (Coppermine Photo Gallery) for more than two years.
I update it once a year and I don't have any problems.
It's easy to use for admin and for user.
    There're many templates.
    Good support from forum.

Coppermine is the best by far. I would not choose it to just show my individual stuff but for a community is great

What would you choose to show individual stuff?

http://slideshowpro.net/ Is the one I base my site off. It's great to use and one of the cheaper solutions on the net. I have the director package.
