Does the Global financial crisis 2008 have any negative impacts on hosts?

I am just interested if the Global crisis has brought any negative consequences in web hosting business? Does your own hosing company experience any negative impacts?

Not yet. I have been worried about that as well. I hope in few months we will see what will happen.

It seems to be slowing down, at least from this affiliate's perspective. One thing I noticed is going on is that some companies are offering better deals direct than you can get through partner websites

    By how much?

Based on my personal experience, things haven't changed, at least not yet.

Personally, its been real bad since Christmas but like I mentioned its probably due to the fact that one of the hosts I usually make a ton of money with is offering insane deals to direct buyers. Of course, when I go look at the hosting stats sites, it looks like the host is growing faster than ever, probably aiming for 1% of hosted domains...

Before that, Sept-Dec. seemed to show an increase in bargain-hunting. People were more likely to be buying 10 year packages to get the lowest monthly price or buying monthly to put the least cash out at once. Very few of the previously popular one-year sales rang through but total volume seemed unchanged.

I think its still a good niche / business sector for the current economic collapse, I just failed to take my own business advice insofar as diversifying to accommodate for company-specific anomalies. Oops

I think I know which one that is. I've always felt that their "specials" were half-designed to screw their affiliates from getting the money they deserve for sending traffic their way.

Yes, it has. But they try to minimize the damage thru outsourcing.

I think it will affect some smaller people selling hosting but if those smaller hosts can offer the same as the big boys do then some should do ok.

I agree with Dan. No changes actually. Maybe little tendency to reduce in getting new sign ups. But I rely that to the holidays we had.

    From Netcraft:
In the January 2009 survey we received responses from 185,497,213 sites, reflecting an uncharacteristic monthly loss of 1.23 million sites.
Maybe there is a start of a decline but I doubt it. New UK business registrations haven't been affected. (Companies house figures). So as log as you are targeting those guys. I don't think there will be much of an impact.

I don't see any changes in the clients behaviour so far. I hope I will not see it in the future too

Having posted the polls like this one at several posts I received different statistics as a result. Nevertheless it is clear that recession has a negative impact on hosts anyway!

For some it will be a negative impact, for others it's a positive - i.e. People going through their own hosting needs and realising they are paying well over the odds and doing something about it, usually moving elsewhere if they find they've been paying thousands a month for a 5 year old server with no hint of an upgrade/improved offer from their host etc.

So far, so good - in fact, business seems to have actually picked up at both my free and paid hosts. I am happy with this.

The impact of Global financial crisis is on everything and hosting business is not left out, possibly this is the time for new idea innovation.

Sign ups always slow down during and just after the holiday season. They've started to pick up again just like in the past and so far everything looks to almost be a little "above normal" to be honest.

I think that people just become more aware of their costs and might to down size a little. However there are always new people in need of site and blogs etc. Overall we have seen an increase in business.

It could have some impact, not on the web hosts formally, but on the business or bigger clients, the companies have. If you rent or co-lo 2-3 or more machines which are part of your business, then it may reflect the host's business.

As far as I see many people think that effects exist!
