How Can I Make My Blog Better?

I'm not looking specifically for comments on the design, but on the content and structure of my blog. I'm an entirely self-taught designer, copywriter and blogger - and sometimes I feel like there are gaps in between what I know, and what I should know.

In particular, I'd love advice about how I can better spread the word about my blog. I've had it almost a year now and would really like to know how to "take it to the next level" - especially with social bookmarking and things like that.

I look forward to your suggestions!

Hi Sparkie. Unfortunately, at present we only have one review-your-site forum and you'll have to use that one to get your blog content reviewed even though it was made for design reviews.

As far as promoting your blog, members here can help. You might find a lot of Social Bookmarking tips in the Social Bookmarking Forum. Also, do list your blog here in our "list your blog here thread".

For now, I'll have to caution members to not post reviews of blogs in this forum but please do add your tips about successfully promoting a blog and taking it to the next level.

    Thanks Shyflower!

I realize things have changed since my Advisor days here

I will post on the content part in the review your site forum, but I'd still greatly appreciate any information you can give me on marketing my blog on social networking sites.
(i.e. is it worth it to add digg/sphinn buttons to every post? do people even use them? and how do I increase my authority on technorati and get people to interact with the blog through it?)

I think you better go to other site and looking for their word inside the post. Go to blog who have a high ranking and learn how they type word on every post. A lot of thing you can learn if you always visit and view other blog.

Sherice, you can as well submit your blog to directories. There's a lot of free directory listing out there. If your blog is accepted to DMOZ directory, I believe it will bring your blog to the next level.

Often overlooked is linking out to other blogs.

Many of us feel rather stingy with giving a link. We are afraid our readers will
leave and not ever come back LOL. That's only true if your blog is crap, if
it's good, your readers will come back.

If you link out, others will link in to you.

Trust me, they will find you and they will link to you.

Basically, there are SERPs and word of mouth.

You will need incoming links to rise in the SERPs.

    It's linkbait.

concerning your blog content, you can also improve that by asking for suggestions from the visitors that you recieve. you may place a survey on what they want to see in your blog, what they like about it and more.. you can use the gathered data to improve the content of your site.

Thanks! On incoming links, I have a feature on my blog that does dofollow links after visitors leave 2 comments. Will that be enough or should I do more?
