Do you use Voice to Text dictation software?

Do you use voice dictation software to draft your articles?

I find typing articles as I create them slow and hard work. I think my main problem is that I read and reread the text, trying to draft and edit as I go... and don't seem able to just punch out a rough draft fast. So I was thinking dictation software might be helpful to me.

Can anyone else that uses this sort of software please recommend a good product to try (for windows) and maybe some tips on making the best use of it?

Tech review: Speech recognition software improves but isn't flawless

It all depends on how you speak. If you're an expert public speaker, no problem. If you only think you're good at speaking, you may be disturbed at how much editing you do anyway.

Once you get going content should improved quickly, and provide some conversational tone to writing.

"Speech recognition software improves but isn't flawless" LOL

I remember saying this same line to customers whilst working in a PC dealer in the late 1980s, and it was about the same product too, Dragon Speak I think it was called back then.

Thanks for the article link. Sounds like I REALLY need to try this out for myself though. Shame the Dragon software doesn't offer any sort of trial.

Guess you don't need to if you own the market

I would also suggest Dragon Naturally Speaking if you run Windows...

In regards to the editing part, even if you type out all your work, you still have to go over it to check for errors and make small adjustments. The amount of time saved using speech-to-text more than makes up for that.

Yeah i've used it in the past with some good success. For windows i think Dragon is definitely the best. Wither way you will still have to manualyl edit, this also applies to bought articles if you get them cheap.

If you speaks clearly, there should be no problem using a voice to text dictation software. but if not, i think it will consume more hours compared to just by typing what's in your head. Hey, typing is a good exercise

    Are you selling or buying?

a 'fair' price is very relative. Some people are happy to pump out articles for 1 cent per word... if you want decent original articles without being dicked around by people who can't spell or use proper grammar, probably look to pay double to triple that rate.

If they are an American with 8th grade or better education who can use a spell checker, probably a little more.

The average rate for a well researched, seo-optimized article from a professional writer will be around $.03 per word.

I think it boils down to how fast you can type. I'm a fast typer so I prefer to type. I haven't tried any voice software although I have seen one in action. They do seem good, but I think it is down to how well you speak, and think. At first I would imagine you'd be prone to errors.
