    Uninstall MySQL?

    Hi everyone,

I need to uninstall MYSQL on Windows 98 using Apache. I basically changed my password a while ago and lost all the privileges for creating DB, tables, etc...
I can't remember the password and user name now and the only solution I have is to erase everything and start from scratch again (i.e uninstall and reinstall MySQL) I tried to reinstall but somehow MySQL remembered all the users set ups!

This is crucial in my project and any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanking you in advance
    Seb

I am just guessing in the dark here, but after you uninstall MySQL, could you check if the my.cnf file is still in your system root? It should be somewhere in C:\my.cnf.
I think that might be the cause of the problem.

i think it remembered your info because when you uninstall it, it doesn't delete any databases. to fix this, stop MySQL from running, and then go into your data directory (under where you installed MySQL by default, called `data') and delete the `mysql' directory. this will delete the `mysql' database which is where privileges are stored. rerun the MySQL setup and it should be ok.
