DHTML Layers and Actions

I have seen this done on bratta.com before, so I know it's possible

How could I create a DHTML Layer which sits beneath my current HTML document, so that when a user clicks a link, the page is already pre-loaded. But not only that, the image position, moves into the top corner of the screen, I know this may sound vaige, but I do have basic eXperience in DHTML, and advanced knowledge in Javascript, would it be best to let JavaScript do the work or stick with DHTML???

Vague question gets vague answer.

Use a <div> to create the layer (position:absolute or relative). onClick reset the visibility.
