    set mysql variable using command

    Hi,

    How to set mysql variable permanently using command without making changes in my.ini i cant find the my.ini file in c:/windows or in c:/mysql/mysqlserver/bin/

    you can't set it permanently unless you edit that file. did you do a windows file search for the file? mysql isn't going to run without that file.

    set variable_name=value

    this resolved the issue temporarily. Is there is any option to do it permanently

    Are you looking for environment variables? In WINDOWS you can right click on My Computer, Advanced, Environment Variables - if that's what you're looking for.

    no they want to create a variable in mysql and set it to some unique value. in order to do so they would have to set it in my.ini file and even then may not be able to do it.

    yes, i want to set it in my mysql, i read your post said have to edit that my.ini file. thanks.
