Problems uploading database - phpMyAdmin - 1st timer!

I'm trying to upload a database for a site i've built but i've never gone through this process before and am encountering some problems.

I have extracted the database to a .sql file.

I have then accessed phpMyAdmin online and used the import feature, selected the .sql file to import and hit go.

I then recieve an error saying:

#1044 - Access denied for user 'xxxxxxx-xxxxxxx'@'%' to database 'xxxxxxxxxxxxx'

( i have removed the user name / database name incase there is any security risk in posting it???)

can anyone offer any advice? i'm really not sure at what point i'm doing things wrong here?
