Installing PHP and MySQL under Vista

    Hi all,

It would be really (extremly) usefull if anybody could help me get PHP and MySQL up and running on Vista as I require it for work at school!

It is running Vista Home Premium, and to be hinest I'm not really sure where to begin with installing it.

    Thanks in advance!

    Dan

If you want apache, php and MySQL, try xampp : http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-windows.html

See the "Vista Note" in that page before installing.

If you want a fairly painless install, you could always install an Ubuntu Lamp Server on an old computer, which would have everything already installed.

I cannot seem to get XAMPP to work properly, this (I imagine) is probably down to the error I got which was as follows:
    Code:
Error: Apahe Service not Started [-1]
    Any Ideas?

Can't afford to do that as it must be mobile and I cannot afford to get another laptop. My Desktop already dual-boots but my laptop does not have the HDD capacity to do this.

I just did this last weekend on Vista x64, and it was a battle. XDebug would just not work right, things kept dying. It was a battle and I kept losing. Changed over to WAMPServer and -- although I think it's a little bit clunky in places -- getting that and XDebug from the XDebug site and I was able to get it working in about an hour.

What it sounds like your last problem is that the services aren't starting automatically.
