That would be the sensible thing to do with 95% of hosts, but i`m with RedHotAnt who seem have forgotten all about technical support. I have amd more calls to RHA than seems possible and never got through, ever. lol

They have a rather nasty reputation for being incredibly hard to get through to but moving away from them is not a good idea as currently in the UK they have the most powerful web package available. Truly unlimited webspace and no bandwidth restrictions.

Offers like that don`t come along often so stay with them I will

I have been unable to get CGI working on my site, despite reading as many FAQS and picking through help files for all the CGI scripts I`ve tried.

My problem is that I can never seem to make the folders and files readable and executable. CHMODing?

I`m using WS_FTP Lite to upload all my files. But I will switch to another FTP just for CGI uploading if there is a better one which allows you to directly enter the FTP commands.

I`ve been told to use telnet but I seem to fail to log into my space everytime with this so cant issue commands there either.

So thats the crux of my problem. changing the state of files that I upload and knowing how to upload them correctly.

Any tips on software to use and or specific techiniques would be just lovely.

    Thank you.

I would recommend asking your host to help you through the telnet process ...

some hosts might not have telnet enabled for accounts by default

Have a look at this thread for a quick over-view on chmoding:

As for TELNET, I agree with Vinay: talk to your host.
