    Re design and copyright issues

Should one worry about copyright issues when asked to redesign a site or make modifications to the graphics/code?

I know that contracts clients have with past designers vary, and some may have give ownership to the client, does this give the client the right to ask a new designer to make modifications?

If for some reason, a client did not bother at all with any contracts with the past designer, then would it be wise for a new designer to avoid making any modifications at all to the design?

Or is it that generally designers don't care when they make a site for a client and they or someone else updates it.

If there were no contracts, I wouldn't worry about it. Most clients buy a design which includes logos, layout, etc. If for any reason there was an issue in the future, you are not responsible, the company that hired you to re-design is.
