    XML Metadata Interchange (XMI) anyone?

    hi

is anyone here familiar with XMI (XML Metadata Interchange) and UML? if you are could you please explain to an intellectually-challenged person (that's me) what it's all about? what's it do? is it something that's going to catch on and become a good thing to learn

    thanks

I'd never heard of it before, but a quick consultation with our mutual friend Google revealed the following useful pages:

    http://www.online-learning.com/paper...data/N208.html
    http://cgi.omg.org/news/pr99/xmi_overview.html
    http://www.xml.com/pub/rg/XMI_XML_Metadata_Interchange
    http://www.oasis-open.org/cover/xmi.html

Personally speaking, I would have thought that most business-related data formats are likely to migrate to XML over the next few years, and so given that UML has already become very important, no doubt XMI will soon become widely used too.

However, at the end of the day, XMI is just an XMLized data format, so there's nothing to learn. It's UML itself which is the way of describing a project/program/whatever, and thus the one that actually needs to be learnt.
