    max length of group_concat exceeded

    I am tearing my hair out trying to understand why this always returns a maximum of 8KB in the MSG field:

    Code MySQL:
    SET SESSION group_concat_max_len:=4294967295;
    INSERT INTO z_message (
    SELECT message.REQ_CO, CAST(GROUP_CONCAT('*', DATE_FORMAT(FROM_UNIXTIME(message.WRITE_TIME), '%d/%m/%Y %T'), '  ', m_user.USER_NA_FULL, ':* ',  message.MSG SEPARATOR '\n\n') AS BINARY)
    FROM message
    LEFT JOIN m_user ON message.USER_FROM = m_user.USER_CO
    GROUP BY message.REQ_CO
    );

    Can anyone help me, its a bit urgent!

    what EXACT version of mysql are you using?

    personally, i think you're abusing group_concat(). that's way too much data to be putting in a single field.
