Yeah, most of us run websites as a secondary source. Cheez it'd be hard for me to live at under $100/month. Well maybe if I opted for cardboard box instead of house...

I'm just started a website, and I'm gonna embark on an affiliate program, or 2.

I'm doing it for a bit of extra cash, I'm not expecting to be able to live off it.

Hey Alan, I think I'm the one that told you that advertising's getting smarter, over on HumorWeb LOL

So many people saying that advertising's going down the toilet, but they're wrong. Think about it - everyone and their dog has a web site. For there to exist supply for all of them, it must be performance based. Pay you a dollar if it makes them two. Otherwise it would drain their pockets (the advertisers).

I make five figures a month from affiliate programs and advertising combined (Fastclick, HipLists) and play on increasing that to six in a few months to a couple years, by doing what I've done many times over.

For anyone serious about making a living on the 'net, it's plenty possible. You just gotta have a plan, and don't quit. Make mistakes and learn from them. Never stop generating ideas. Sort through the ones that don't work and keep finding more that do work. Simple as that.

    It's anyone's game

In contrast, my personal experience has shown that a small amount of targetted traffic is much more profitable than a massive amount of untargetted traffic.

I guess if you have lots of traffic .. plus a targeted affiliate program(s) with good products ... it's possible to generate a reasonable commission income.
