Smile Do you use RSS feeds on your WP site for content?

Just wondering if you use RSS feeds from various sources on your blog for content.

News sites, weather, other blogs...things like that.

There is some interesting content and services out there that provide such things that make your site more interesting and hopefully more helpful to your visitors.

I just found widgetbox.com the other day. Gave me lots of ideas.

Just wondered what kinds of things like this you do, if any.

WordPress has an RSS sidebar widget that I've used before. I ran into some problems when the feed had a different character encoding than what my blog uses and had to hack the widgets.php file a bit, but that problem may have since been resolved. Currently I am only using it to include the wildflower feed from my site.

If you liked another feed enough, and wanted to do more than just include it in your blogroll links, the RSS widget is a good idea.

One of the other SitePoint forum members recently posted a thread about some problems including a "sports scores" widget in the blog header (the blog is sports related).

So yes, if the RSS feed is related to what your blog is about, I think they will help make it more interesting and helpful for your visitors.

I've played around with the WP-o-matic plugin as well. I'm using that on one site to pull real estate listing from one of the real estate sites that offers this feature for your website. Looks nice.

I've been experimenting with having sections for various parts of another site (it's health/food related) and then finding feeds or fun features that would be relevant and fun. For instance, I can take an instructional cooking video from YouTube and embed it in a section. I can pull related health news and such.

Just been having fun experimenting with this.

I would like to do this, maybe a news page that pulls the latest rss news feeds from yahoo, bbc, cnn - but I have never been able to figure out "how" to do this.

To answer your questions directly, no, I do not. But I would like to.

I would consider using one if I found one appropriate to my niche and one that was going to add value to my users

Big problem, as I see it, is it's dupe content. I would sooner write my own material and keep the SEs happy.

RSS works okay but may or may not suffice your needs. Use either CC or other paid plugins.

    Hi Tauperkin,
I use one RSS feed for "breaking news" about Israel...I'm just not sure if it's of any benefit to the user and perhaps in the future it will be taking up valuable space. But I agree, there are lots of good RSS feeds out there that add something to your site, I will keep looking...

I always use rss feeds on my blogs. It's very helpful to increase visitors.
