    UFO flying across the page!

Hi, Im designing a site for a theme park. The site is being built in xhtml. The client wants a UFO to fly from one side of the page to the other - or perhaps diagonally. Can this be done in flash? Ive seen those annoying adverts that I think is done in flash, which animates over the page. would i somehow embed a flash movie which is 100% size of screen and set the background to transparent? I dont know, is this feasible?
    thanks.
    ps
also - i quite like the feature on this site where the panel animates up from the bottom of the browser screen advertising a new book. how have they done this?

How about a simplified version of this?

I think it would work if you replace the image. Simpler than a Flash animation however not as professional looking.

yeah, that looks quite funky. I could probably change it so just one ufo flies over everyon now and then. flash gives me a bit more flexibility with the animation though.

If you set a flash movie to 100% screen size you won't be able to interact with any html links or buttons below the swf whether tranparent or not. You'd either have to have the swf use javascript to remove its containing div once the animation has played, or only use a div large enough to contain the saucer and animate the div position via javascript.

Yes, it can be done in flash. I don't know how to go
about it in an Object-Oriented / AS3 manner [too slow in learning!]
but can give you an AS2 starter:

    - det. the area of your page that it'll move across: pick something
long and horizontal...incorporate the bkgnd. color/art in your flash file bkgnd.
    - make the ship artwork in flash + turn it into a movie clip.
    - write the code in the timeline [probably using math operations = sine,
cosine, etc.] to move the clip when the movie's loaded.
    - you could also try moving the clip along a path if you can't get your
hands on a good 'movement code' for the timeline.

    Good luck,
