Lightbulb Recommendation to combine a blog with a directory

The key idea of my client's website is to combine a Wordpress blog (using a theme) and a shopping engine like directory in which you can view listings of products after having clicked on categories / sub-categories. This directory needs to have an admin module to add new or edit existing listings. Both are to be integrated by say, having common categories.

What would be the right approach to achieve this while not compromising on good SEO for both the blog and shopping engine.

What would be your recommendations. Any questions before you can suggest, please let me know.

    Regards,
    Hasnain

Any luck on finding something? I need an app like this too.

Would like to have a restaurant directory for a city combined with a blog that can have generic posts and posts related to items in the directory (and shown on that items page).
