XML Site map?

hi,

I have a new blog and I heard that XML sitemap are really helpful as the search engines can find our sites much more easily. Is it so?

Does it really help anybody?

If so Can you guy's tell me how to put a XML site map in a blog.

When I first I submitted my XML sitemap to Google my blog got crawled and indexed almost immediately. And when it gets submitted after I make a new post, same thing. A search for "post specific" text comes up in Google within minutes.
