What is a really good DVD/video converter?

I downloaded "Total Video Converter" and I can't get it to convert the video files from my DVD into a common format such as WMV, MPEG, or AVI, or into sound such as MP3 or WMA, which it says it can do.

I'm not sure what the problem is. Thte files are in a form called ".IFO" which I could only get to play on InterVideo WinDVD, and nothing else.

I'm trying to convert it so I can upload (part) of it on to YouTube, but nothing is working. So, any advice is greatly appreciated.

Just use DVD decrypter and decrypt it, after you can edit it with AutoGordian knot. I see that I cannot post links so just write it in google and you will get the homepage. Best tools out there plus they are free
If not you have some freeware ifo converters out there, just google it..

    Enjoy!

I'm a big fan of Handbrake which is again free (and use it alongside DVD43 for unencrypting).

But for a single solution you can't beat AnyDVD

I just open the disk and investigate the VIDEO_TS folder. The .VOB files are where the video is found. They are MPGs but with a different extension. I copy them to my hard disk and have at it. Avidemux will even edit .VOB files without changing the extension just like they were MPGs. Once in Avidemux you can convert to any format you choose.

Note: I have never had to deal with encryption because I don't do 'commercial' videos.

Use DIVX converter to RIP videos. Format Factory is a free utility and also great for that job.
