I think they're good for "what they are"

great host for your first website, But once you start getting into backend stuff, you just feel really constrained.

I used Godaddy for about a year, then switched to better.

Who is your current host nice?

I think they have crappy hosting. Good register, but their renewals are upsell hell.

GoDaddy are a domain Registrar who offer hosting as a way of making a little more money on the back end of your order the same way MacDonald's ask if you want fries with your order. If you want both your domain registration and hosting from the same place you'll be better off getting them from a hosting provider who offers the domain registration as their upsell rather than getting them from a domain registrar. You will probably need all the optional extras that a proper web hosting provider offers that a domain registrar omits from their hosting to keep things simpler for them whereas you are less likely to need the optional extras on the domain configuration.

... AND you'd better be smarter than to put all your eggs in one basket (use same provider as host and registrar - there are many horror stories about that here)!

They are cheap, I use them for a few sites never had any problems with them but their site hard to navigate due to the amount of ads and the hosting tools are slow to load and crude.

Just cheap and they are fairly well established which is good at times like this when companies are going to be going bankrupt left and right in the next year or two.

There are a number of big companies around that specialise in hosting that are probably at least secure as GoDaddy and will provide better hosting facilities because that's what they specialise in (whereas GoDaddy specialises in domains).

BlueHost, LunarPages, and Hostgator (just to name three) all specialise in providing hosting for a huge number of sites (I saw one quote on the BlueHost owner's blog that stated that they are hosting about 1% of the entire internet - don't know about the accuracy of that statement but they are hosting over 1,000,000 domains)

I have seen they start offering different web hosting packages not much time ago. They are not so big for now by their web hosting. Anyway if you ggogle for their reviews you will find some.

The important thing to remember about GoDaddy is that their main business is that they are a domain registrar. They sell web hosting as an after thought the way MacDonalds try to sell fries with everything.

For the best deal on web hosting you are best off to look for a company that does hosting as their main business.

Interesting thread. I use Godaddy for both hosting and domain registrar. I used to use separate companies but found a couple of tricks that Godaddy offered that just made my life easier. One is their easy install apps like wordpress and the other is just the fact that I can call them at 3 in the morning when the domain is pointing to where it should and get it figured out! ha!

But I do know lots of folks that swear by other companies for hosting. I guess it depends on what you need, too.

I also have a set of Godaddy coupons to save money which helps. (they are from an online video show that I watch and support.)

Haha just stared using Godaddy. I'm using for my Domains and hosting, so far I'm a happy camper! Once I come out of the Newb stage.. I'll be looking for an upgrade on my web hosting. I'm think it will probaly be Host Gator.

i got a domain from godaddy before and found their website absolutely ridiculous. there are so many upsell pages before you can complete the transaction and everything is a mess with no clear organization. it was difficult to find the link button to move onto the next step w/o adding on anything extra. ridiculous.

GoDaddy are basically a Domain registrar, however they do provide hosting services to their users but most people prefer Different Hosts Hosting their website(s) to their Domain Registrant.
