    Widescreen monitor worse for programming?

Hey guys.... I'm in the market for a new LCD monitor & read somewhere that widescreen's are worse for programmers.... I assume this is because they are not as much vertical resolution??? I would of thought the extra width would have far outweighed that concern!?

Anyone have one? What are your thoughts?

    Btw.... I'm thinking of getting a 19" - 21".

    Cheers!

I don't like the lower vertical resolution on my wide screen laptop but the width is nice. Just get a monitor that is big enough that you get the vertical resolution you want and the extra width will be a big bonus.

All depends on the monitor and resolution.
I had an old CRT was at 1600x1200.
    I got a new 17 inch laptop with a size of 1920x1200

Not much different just wider, Can have two files side by side if I wanted along with the file structure panel.

    So I don't agree.

If your vertical resolution is 1200px then that would be a decent monitor and you could get two files side by side, etc. Some monitors are 1024px vertical and 1300px wide which to me isn't tall enough.

I find that a 1920x1200 resolution works well on my 24" as i can have the editor with the code in and a browser window on the screen at the same, tiled next to each other, i can change a bit of code, save then move over to the browser and hit refresh to check the change works.

I know what you mean. One guy I know, single and has enough money to spend, has 8 monitors just for coding. Of the eight, five are rotated vertically so he gets a full page for coding. They're all butted up against each other and he loves it.

Personally i have a flat screen to the right and a crt infront, Only thing the flatscreen gets used for is a full screen foobar(music player/library)

Whenever i tried using more monitors it just annoyed me, although i cant vouch for coding, i know wide screen monitors are amazing for graphic work.

    I have 22" + 13"

It's great for programming, but the 13" is kinda small..
