This is a real fun thread ShyFlower! Great Idea!!

Theres no big mystery to my name, Miz - self explanatory really and Wizzy because of the whole computer wizard/pc technician/web developer side of things thats im into In addition to this I also based alot of my other "ID's" around my mizwizzy one so it has now formed a theme for me those ID's are on a need to know basis only btw

Well, I don't have a middle name, so maybe I'll adopt Spence for it.

Well mine is simply the title of one of my favourite songs by Oasis. It started life as a B-Side but somehow has managed to become a fans favourite - I'd love to be able to make a comparison to a little underestimated song becoming a popular hit and myself and my chosen profession, but sadly I'd be lying if I said that had anything to do with why I picked the name.

Looking at the Dictionary.com definition of it, we have:

to assent tacitly; submit or comply silently or without protest; agree; consent: to acquiesce halfheartedly in a business plan.
So not really sure how that fits in with me either, as I'm always up for a good protest if I can avoid agreeing to something

I expect I was simply just listening to it when I signed up!

compared to all of the other tales, mine is pretty boring: my last name is longnecker.

....before the internet was considered a series of tubes

....even before al gore invented the information superhighway

....most authentication was controlled by unix and BSD servers and not database driven web applications. unix and BSD traditionally limited their usernames to 8 characters. try and stuff longnecker in there, and you get longneck.

and that's also why most of my avatars are giraffes.

I chose ruby-lang mainly because it's ungoogleable, so I can safely discuss my nefarious plans for world (wide web) domination.

That said, I do love the language Ruby and my surname begins with Rubi.

Funky, eh? Username is one thing I never get down right. That leaves me pulling my hair off every time I see it.

I had various usernames in irc chats, but none that I liked, so I changed them almost every time I logged on. Then on the forums I used my first name plus my birthday. It was the only one I really ever liked. But then I read somewhere it wasn't a very good idea to give so much information about yourself in a username alone, so the adventure continues.

I don't know why I came up with this username, it's aweful. First used on Yahoo IM when a client requested I opened an account to communicate, it had to be something work related. I didn't pay much attention to that, it was fine. But what made me think registering on forums with that username was a good idea, I do not know.

It can be worse though. My last attempt to come up with a new username ended up being something that would fit well for a nickname of a porn start.

The bottom line is I'm username inept.

I don't think so. I've always admired those people who were passionate and skilled in php. Your username says it all.

I tried learning PHP, too many functions to remember, then CSS came . Oh I guess I chose this name not because it was cool, but because of this online game I play, starcraft, this team which wins almost every matchup is named BoltZ so I took it. Only BBoardX knows who I am talking about.

    Again with the off-topic...

It's best to learn it in the following order: XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, SQL, PHP, PHP OOP.

Once you spend enough time on one, you'll know it for good. A programming language isn't defined by its functions, but by its syntax - and trust me, PHP has very few functions in comparison to some

Just wait 'till the function library comes out namespaced and oopified. Then confusion sets in

I still know hardly any JavaScript - enough to get by and do what I want, but nothing advanced. I would reorder your list and put JS last

That is basically the order I learned it in. I'm in that phase but I'm sorta growing out of it. I'm playing the game less and less.

good guess, but we never owned a Commodore. I remember someone who did...cassette tapes with programs on them, woo hoo. I had a PC with 20, count 'em 20, MB on the hard drive and a Hercules graphic card that let me play Starflight, though it reduced the display to the size of a postcard.

We're talking in the past here. Back then it probably cost a damn site more than $90

In a few years/decades your laptop will be worth $90 too, and I'm sure it cost more than that now

My name is Jillian, but my hands are uncoordinated so whenever I try to type it fast my right hand gets on a roll and my poor left hand struggles to get the 'a' in at the right time and I end up with 'Jillina'... hence I thought it might help if I could type my "name" with only one hand.

If only I'd stuck with the piano lessons when I was a kid...
