Should a CF Developer learn Java?

    Hello everyone

Just wanted to know your thoughts:

Are you teaching yourself Java so you can keep getting assignments?

Can someone who does not know Java manage to find work anymore?

How many people have decided to look for different careers because they don't want to learn Java?

What type of sites should and should not use Java?

Just wanted to get your thoughts on all this.

If you're looking for ColdFusion work, move to Nashville. There's great demand here for experienced, and even beginner, ColdFusion developers.

It's never bad idea to learn new things, especially when they tie in so closely to your primary knowledge silo. But I don't think it's necessary to learn Java to get work.

I've considered this from time to time and have even done some tutorials on java but I always end up at the same conclusion that I could do it way easier and faster in ColdFusion! There's definately nothing wrong with learning new things and if I learn something else, chances are it will be java but maybe I'm not ready for the step up yet...or maybe I've been spoiled by ColdFusions goodness! In terms of work, adding java to your skills would be a plus but then again, same could be said for .net, php, ruby etc

I use some java with CF. Its nice that I can call java classes from CF if I need to or we have some legacy java code. I agree that the more languages you learn even just to be familiar with helps.

I think it will definitely make you more marketable. There are more Java related job openings than CF, that's for sure.
