best way to take & make screenshot clear?

I am trying to add screenshots to my brochure. I have to scale them slightly to fit the brochure and they are not very clear.

I see screenshots in a brochure from Quicken and they are super clear - are those simply created using graphics software?

Anyway, for mine, I take screenshots in 1076x960 resolution and add them to my brochure that is then converted to pdf. But before they are converted, I have to scale them slightly to fit in the brochure. That's where the clarity is lost.

I am using GIMP graphics software.

Is there a better way to do this? Many thanks for any advice!

The trick I have always been using is to scale the image by an even factor (200%, 300% etc) with interpolation turned off (Nearest Neighbour in Photoshop). Of course, pixels will be blocky (x2 x3 of their normal size) but the screenshot will be sharp, not blurred.
If a very high quality is required and the whole project is worth investing the time - a screenshot can be... vectorized, with raster images re-inserted in high resolution.
