Two questions regarding progressive downloaded videos (I'm on Flash 8 BTW) . . .
1. Can Flash only do that with flvs? I have a customer who want to upload videos to his site and stream them through the player. I'm right in saying he'll have to manually encode every video aren't I (there's no flv encoder on his server)?
2. Is it easy / possible to dynamically specify which flv is downloaded based on a GET variable? Example scenario:
/playvideo.php?video=video1 would play video1.flv
/playvideo.php?video=video2 would play video2.flv
/playvideo.php?video=video3 would play video3.flv
Yes flash 8 = only flv videos (flash 9 can do flv's plus h264)
You could do the second scenario depending on the flv player which needs to be passed the file, you could pass it in the embedding html through flashvars, but you need to know your player accepts dynamic file input
