    Order of page elements

I have just noticed that when I ask Google to list the pages from my site that it indexes, the description part for each page contains the menu elements and not the actual text from the page.

    For example: site:mywebsite.com

    My Website | Contact Us
banner image. Home About Us Page 2; Page 2
    Page 3 Page 4 Page5 ...

How can this be rectified? Should I move the menu elements to below the main text and position them using CSS?

The snippet displayed usually depends on the search performed so unless this is happening for searches that visitors are typing I wouldn't worry.

The search I did was of the format:

    site:www.iputmymywebsitenamehere.com

But if I do a search for, for example, www.scalefinder.info then it shows the main text from the page:

    site:www.scalefinder.info

The typical searcher won't find your site using those searches though, so I wouldn't worry about that. If they search for "the phrase that summarises my page" and it's just your navigation that appears in the snippet, then I'd maybe do something.

You can see how the search performed affects the snippet here and here. You can see that the snippet is different even though the same sitepoint page is returned. If it was happening when someone searches for a phrase, then you might want to rejig the content on the page around that phrase.
