    Porn Emails

I get these emails about once aday to my family email address, i have a little brother who could read these. They always come from different email addresses that are sending it to related email addresses to mine, eg.thejones5@hotmail.co, thejonesfive@xtra.co.nz, thejones5@aol.com and so on.
I know this is a program doing this and they always come from different email addresses even though I dont submit forms or have a form for someone to submit stuff to. Is their anyway i can stop getting these emails?????

These are ones i received today. By the way i have signed up for nothing like this so how did they get my email address???

Spammers should be shot. ESPECIALLY porn spammers. There is really no effective way of stopping them except email filters or some real legislation. Get some email filters in place for you email program, and you should be fine.

My filter deletes anything that has the word "FREE" in capital letters, since all retarded email I seem to get contains that word. After implementing that, the average IQ of my inbox has improved significantly.

Yep, it's getting worse. If you have a web site your email address will be picked up sooner or later, transferred to a cd and sold at $x per million to spammers, many of which will run porn sites. The trick is to change it regularly which is a pain but there it is.

Spam is despisable, but porn spam is just inexcusable. As noted, there is no way of verifying the age of the recipiant, and the text contained within is often graphically digusting.

Laurieb, You are right about the CD -I get offers to buy those all the time. BUT -if you have a domain name, they can and will spam you, and changing your email won't help because any email to non exsistant email addys defaults to the main email account ie: webmaster or admin @yourdomain.com.
A couple of ways to avoid spam is to:
    * Load hundreds of bad email addys on your contact page. (evil grin)
    * Hide your real email addy on that contact page by either making it an image so that robots can't find it but viewers can read it, or making it hidden in a form.
    * Be sure to use a free email account if you absolutely must register software or sign up for anything.

'neogamersdotcom', I took the liberty of editing your post to star out some bad language and remove a url. Had you been online, I simply would have pm'd you and asked you to edit it, but it wasn't something that could wait unfortunately.

As to the problem of porn in emails, I know exactly where you are coming from. I have 2 children aged 10 and 7, so guarding from such content is paramount. Fortunately I only ever get these emails in my hotmail account (despite my main email address being readily available!), and if by chance the children are about when I access it all they see is the title before the email is deleted.

Like M. Johansson says, you could always try setting up filters to sniff out the usual profanity that appears in this type of email.

Ruchir, you can activate a spam filter within your Hotmail account, which does seem to catch most of it as I don't get anywhere near as much as I used to since I switched the filter on, though some will still leak through. Seems this filter looks out for bulk recipients and blocks them. For example, I regularly used to get stuff that was sent to every hotmail address they could find that began with 'saz'!

These email are a real problem, some of my customers have had to change domain names due to the volume of porn/spam they get into the postmaster boxes, a bit of advice I give them is, it is Never a good idea to hit the 'Remove me from this mailng list' in these types of email, it will just let them know the email has been read, they will probably keep sending them then!

This depends on your setup. I used to use a catchall (ie EVERYTHING@mydomain.com ended up on my desktop but that resulted in tons of spam so now I change it whenever the rubbish gets excessive (but never to webmaster@, every spammer tries that one first!). I know that there are scripts that prevent robots from reading your email address from your web site but I prefer to keep things as simple as possible, you never know what wierd and wonderful browsers are being used and I wouldn't want to stop genuine clients from being able to email me easily. The important thing, as you say, is never but never input your main email address onto a form on someone else's website, it's just asking for trouble.

Basically in conclusion there is only one thing we can say:

Some people are low life, idiots whose only friend is the porn on their computer that they are trying to sell.

IF YOU SPAM EMAILS LIKE THIS I OnLY HAVE A FEW WORDS FOR YOU-

    GET A LIFE

Are you acusing the sitepoint community of being the culprits when it comes to spamming?

If so, then you should have known better. Everyone here is almost family. I would bet money that virtually no one that is a user of SitePoint forums is an active spammer. Also, if you thought anyone who is a spammer would come to this page to read your post then... Well, you should know better. Spammers don't have a conscience. They don't care to waste their time reading people's complaints about their spam. That's time wasted spamming!

I'm sorry if I misinterpreted your post, but I just had to get this off my chest. Good luck...

    Um, Tony,
Did you not notice that the topic here was PORN spam?
neogamersdotcom did not post here to accuse any sitepoint members of spamming. He, like everyone else in this thread, was condemming porn spam. Anyone guilty of spam (sitepoint member or not) deserves to be condemmed. Porn spammers deserve to be condemmed 10 X.

I noticed it was porn spam. It's just I don't think anyone here that reads this post is a porn spammer. If you get angry at anyone, get angry at the spammers I agree. But they aren't here.
