Question Going arrayless (using strings instead of arrays).

I've heard JavaScript is quite quick with strings. If I had a predictable data set that would be updated in a predictable way, would it be quicker to dump the set in a string and then manipulate that, or is it quicker using an array.

If it matters, the data is a set of coordinates in a grid and either a 1 or 0 to show whether the grid cell is on or off.

As I know, there are different implementation of the JavaScript, so if the script is fast Safari, it can be slow in IE. IE works with strings slower then other browsers.

This article is a good example of such investigation: http://www.softwaresecretweapons.com...gconcatenation

Thanks for the article. There's some interesting reading there. I guess I'll need to try it out and see how fast it works.
