Sitemap has twice as many pages as google has indexed...

    Hi,

In the google webmaster area, it says Urls submitted over 300k - but when i do a google search with the "site:" option, i notice that google has indexed only around 165.000 url's.

Can anyone explain why google hasnt indexed all my pages even though i have a sitemap submitted?

The webmasters area shows the number of submitted URL's and the number of indexed URL's. Is the number of indexed URL's also over 300k?

Also maximum URL's for a sitemap is 50,000 and file size < 10MB

When exceeding that size, you just split xml sitemap into multiple files and connect them with sitemaps index file. All part of the XML sitemaps protocol.

You should be using sitemap indexes ... I don't go over 500 pages per sitemap ...
