xml is used for storing information. In Ajax applications xml sheet is used for retrieving data to a html page by using Java script techniques for updating a part of a web page.I thought xml replaces database applications. Can you give me explanation about this.
XML is a data format in which data can be transferred between systems. As text file, XML document can be saved to disk or database. In some cases XML can replace the database but it does not support database features like selecting data from multiple tables, indexes, ordering datasets and so on. If the application does not require these features or require only limited implementation of them, then it can use XML-based storage instead of DB storage.
"xml replaces database" may mean that XML "hides" database from application. E.g. application does not know whether it works with XML storage or DB storage. But if you need good functionality, you should use DB.
Ajax not only use xml for retrieving data...it can also use plain text or jason...as for xml database - there are many books about how to use and build one...but if you need high speed and functionality use true database...
