Question The end of the world is nigh, on the 10th Sept 08?

Well everyone, on the 10th of September this year the worlds largest particle accelerator will be turned on for a number of experiments. Some people have tried to have it stopped, but to no avail. link at NewScientist

To me, I don't think it will end the world, but if it does it's been nice knowing you all here at SPF and to Google for just being there for interesting searches & spellings.

All the best, I'll see you all in heaven.

as someone who knowingly and deliberately built information systems back in the '70s using a 2-digit code for the year (which spared our organization humungous expense on additional disk space, which was around ten thousand dollars per megabyte at the time), i can tell you with assurance that if the Y2K problem did not end civilization as we know it, the Y2K38 problem surely will

so we have about 3 decades

Ah, will we all be alive in 9 days time? Time will only tell, and if not we have 21/12/2012 or the Unix problem, great, any more?

Oh but it is something to wish for, to live to see it, to be where it ends, to have the privilege to be part of the end of human history. This is one death I'd agree to die even today

Don't worry the last few days they've been preparing to launch their rap career so won't have much time to blow up the world.

Great rap, I was spinning around on my chair.

Did you know when they shoot a particle around the LHC it will travel 11,000 times per second, it will reach speeds upto 99.9% the speed of light.

Sorry, normal SPF will now resume

We seem to keep being granted extensions when the doomsday date comes close.

A few scenarios where life could end as we know it, in degree of seriousness
    1) massive plague
    2) nuclear warfare
    3) the earth stops spinning
    4) sun goes supernova
    5) zombie infestation
    6) chuck norris leaves the planet to vacation on mars
