    I am testing my php scripts in win98, with omnihttpd server, which has php built in.

    It works fine for simple <?php echo("james is here") ?>

    but when i try to define variables from an html file , eg

    <A HREF="welcome.php?name=james"> hi i am james </A>

    then in welcome.php

    <?php echo( "hello $name!" );?>

    it crashes with the following error :

    PHP.EXE caused fault #c0000005 in PHP4TS.DLL at address 0177:10043bfe

    I would guess that you are using an old version of PHP4, pre PHP4b3 I would say. I used to get them errors all the time, after Beta3 they disappeared altogether and have never plagued me again.

    I suggest that you upgrade to a newer version if you are not using the latest, if you are using the latest then file a bug reprt on the php website (Make sure a similar one hasn't been filed first).
