Regarding a post on the first page, I don't understand how simply putting an image in a post can also put a cookie on my computer. I'm familiar with using JavaScript and PHP to do so... does that mean you can also set cookies using image headers? That seems pretty dodgy.

If you quote someone and see an [img] tag in their post when there's no image showing up on the page. We actually look for it.

Interestingly enough - I visited DP yesterday to see what the fuss was about, it being the only site that I visited outside of my normal set of sites, and I ran a spyware check on my system (I was just about to check my bank details), and lo and behold - I was infected by a high-level spyware program pretending to be an .ico file.

If I did pick it up from DP - Wow. Talk about dirty.

headers in the file itself? no.

but your web server sends exactly the same type of headers to the client (including cookies) as it does when sending html pages. you can do this by either webserver configuration (i.e., .htaccess for apache) or by using a simple script.

Now we Know why Digital Point has got a big name for itself.The owner i beleive is giving hes own website a bad rep. (Only if the accusations are true)I dont think its bigger then sitepoint though. LOL. Digital Point is crazy over there.It feels like a circus everytime i go to the site.The entire website is like a free for all.This will be intresting to see what happens though.Ebay has tons of money there not afraid to sit down in court to sue people stealing money.

It doesn't protect him against any of the laws he's being sued under, this isn't a copyright case.

I don't have all the different laws memorized, but yes, it does look like you're right in that I referenced the wrong law. The one I was probably thinking of is Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act of 1996. Particularly the language stating that:

"no provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be treated as the publisher or speaker of any information provided by another information content provider."

I believe that's the law all (or most) providers use when defending themselves of liability due to what their members or customers do online.

We don't even know if he's guilty. You know, "innocent until proven guilty" and all that. Well, "innocent until proven guilty" doesn't seem to be how it works in all cases, but at least in this case it will.

I think I was little wrong when I asked "Who is the culprit, Shawn or the members"..

Either the question is bad for them or good, I know I speeak beyond limit so I will accept the penalty...

Wow! It's amazing what someone will do to make a little more income on top of what
they are already earning. It's clear Shawn is making a lot of money from DP and has
been for a long time now... if this is true it's clearly just greed.

DP seems to be a gathering place for a lot of bad people and they seem to take over a
lot of the forum. That's why I like SP better, the community is much better.

Anyway, I hope Shawn get's what he deserves - one way or another!

Also, I think DP has passed it's sell by date, just look at the site it's self and the logo, looks like it was made from a 'B' movie made in the seventies.

The whole site just does not look like a business compared to SP. To me I think (and looks like) Shawn is just in for the money and thats it, shows no passion for updates, selling books or posting articles.

Shame really, the more money that site could have made through better managment just like SP.

Shows you how easy it is to point at someone else's yard in order to take attention away from the mess of your own.

...I find the moderation here is much better than over at DP. I really think you
need to take a look over there, you'll find people selling products they don't
have rights to, website sales going bad and a ton of blackhat methods going on.

That kind of crap shouldn't be allowed on a forum and I'm glad the mods don't
allow that here. And if you don't like the moderation here, there is always DP
