Now its time for DP members join my forum

Just kidding, thats a whole lot of mess for sure. I am sure there were something going on, otherwise a reputed company like Ebay wouldn't sue some small business owner like Shawn.

Folks, please try to be respectful here. Calling people names (even ones I can talk to face to face inside of an hour) is against the forum rules here.

With so many other unethical practices allowed to grow and prosper on DP, it does not surprise me that this happened. Obviously, the courts will have to decide who is to blame, I can't say I didn't see something like this coming. DP is a huge site, and so much more good could have been done with it.

It's because people go to DP to do things banned here.

    And, the mods are overworked.

I've noticed that. Everyone who voiced anything other than brownosing owner or mods is now banned. What a site...

Nothing is proven yet. We can just make guesses now. Time will tell the truth.

If you quote someone and see an [img] tag in their post when there's no image showing up on the page. We actually look for it.

I hope Shawn can get out of this trouble..
I'd be floored if he's able to. They wouldn't have filed, unless they had pretty substantial evidence that there was in fact some wrong-doing. It doesn't look good.

If that's the case, then Hogan shouldn't have anything to worry about. The DMCA should be sufficient to protect him from liability related to what his website visitors do.

The DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) provides safe harbor for service providers against liability for copyright infringement claims on content users post through their service.

It doesn't protect him against any of the laws he's being sued under, this isn't a copyright case.

So does ebay say how the gang did it? If they did it how did they do it? I am a regular on DP and i hope it will not affect the forum. Was not Shawn sued a few years ago for downloading P2P or something I am sure he knows what he is doing

Innocent to proven guilty and this is just a civil law suit

Good that site is like the Gaia Online of the webmaster world (thats not a good thing).

I gave crazy rob, some negative eRep the other day and he promptly dug thru 3 years of threads issuing infractions for every single thing until I was banned.

Lol talk about not having much of a life i guess.

It's amazing what people will do just to make a buck. Or a few bucks for that matter. What a shame.

    Angry

    To proven guilty….

I had a reporter calling me asking about some crime I did not do and that he would post that the next day in the newspaper all over town. I said “hey I have not even talked to the police yet, it’s just a report” He said basically I was guilty and I said I would report him for raping my sister. He said “but I have not raped your sister” right…..

This is a very interesting story. I will have to wait for my Acrobat to finish opening up the full pdf to see it all but it should provide some interesting changes and precedents in the digital world.

    That's easy!

    1. Find a small eBay page you can link to.
    2. Get the affiliate link to link to that page.
    3. Put the link on your site as a hidden frame.
    4. Your visitors come to your site, have no idea about the hidden frame, and you make money if they go to ebay and register or buy something!!!!!!
    5. Get sued!!

Glad I haven't used eBay in years! That must be a task and a half, having to quote every post and check for this kind of behavior.

I'm sure a few modifications could make it easier for moderators to see whether or not there's an img tag in a post.
