    Upgrading Linux Kernel

    Hi,

I could not find a more appropriate forum to post this in but if anyone can help me here please, I reall some help.

This might sound like a stupid question but this is a subject with which I am extremely ignorant. I am trying to install MySQL and PHP on a machine that is running Red Hat Linux release 6.1 (cartman) Kernel 2.2.12-20 on an i686.

An advisory on the MySQL web page recommends users running Kernel 2.2.14 to upgrade to a newer version. Since my machine seems to be running an older version of the Linux Kernel I was wondering what advantages are there for me in upgrading to a newer Kernel and how would I go about doing so?

The newer kernel will be more secure. < 2.2.14 probably have a relatively bad security hole.

Something like how to upgrade your kernel can't be explained here. It's too complicated, and that you're even asking in a forum like this makes me wonder if you might want to search out someone who has done it before. Not that it's bad to learn. If you want to learn how to do it, and if the machine you're working on isn't critical, by all means, learn to do it.

    Here's a starting point:
