    microformats

So I just read though hCalendar in the microformat section of sitepoint's html reference, and since microformats are brand new to me I though someone could tell me if I understand them so far..

So far what I gather is by adding some standard classes to html elements you make it possible for different software applications to access that data/share the data. And this is beneficial because some date, such as calendar events, are very common pieces of data that should be marked up accordingly.

Yeah, that's right. The aspect of microformats I really like is the practical one--it's very cool when third party apps can extract the data from your site and use it independent of your site. In essence, microformats act as an API for your site's data.

I love the direction microformats are digging towards.

I think with all the 'presentational' naming conventions and way of looking at data, 'microformats' will bring us developers back to our logical senses
