Easy software for creating a proposed sitemap to show to clients?

    G'day.

We've been putting together website sales proposals for years, and part of that proposal is a sitemap for the proposed new website.

Although I can't claim we've looked very hard (yet), we've not found a simple, easy-to-use, web sitemap-specific software tool to help us create and manage a sitemap diagram. Perhaps one doesn't exist!?

In the past we've used a fairly simple vertical list of page names and descriptions, with indents to show pages and sub-pages. At the moment we're using the SmartArt Tools built into Word 2007 - nice looking, but just lacks a bit of web-specific flexibility.

Does anyone have any recommendations in this regard? We must be able to import (or cut/paste, drag 'n drop) the result of our work into a Word doc - as an image is fine.

    Thanks!

You could easily create one in any programming language in about 10 minutes...

That's not a very helpful reply, Jeff. Can't you set aside 10 minutes and write up an example then?

Sure - let me write out the logic behind it (maybe if I'm not too lazy I can code it tomorrow):

    1. determine the starting url (index)
    2. data = file_get_contents(index)
    3. links = preg_match_all (data)
    4. keep only the links that are from the same domain
    5. loop to #2

Thanks Jeff. I obviously didn't make my question clear enough. I'm talking about a website that doesn't exist yet. We're talking about a sales proposition here. Ideally, I'm looking for some software, hosted or to download and install, that will allow me to create and manage a sitemap proposal to show to prospective clients. It'll be like a graphic flowcharting/diagram software, e.g. visio - but that would be overkill for this purpose.

Hope that helps to clarify. Sorry for any misunderstanding.

    Ahhhhh.

Interesting. I've never heard of such a software. I usually use a whiteboard or a pen and paper.

Hopefully someone has and can suggest something.

    Jeff.

Hey, a bit of Googling came up with these two:

    http://www.powermapper.com/products/mapper/index.htm
    http://www.smartdraw.com/specials/site-map.htm

Will take one or both for a spin and report back. If anyone else has any experience with these or others and wishes to leave feedback - fire away.

Also check out WriteMaps.com. It's a hosted solution with some pretty good features.

Hey, I like this one (first impressions). Less 'heavy' than the others, and I love the sharing capabilities thanks to it being hosted...

    Thx.

Jumpchart is a pretty cool service that I considered using before realizing I didn't actually need it. THough it seems that you will need it.
