    Question max file name length for files online

    Hi people quick one, is there a max file length for files online, I use both unix/lunx and windows hosting?

    Depend on the software. For example, PHP has upload-max-filesize (default I believe is 2M)

    ah sorry I mean file name length as in the amount of characters allowed in a file name

    ext2fs used by many Linux distros has a 255-character limit for file names. NTFS for Windows has the same limit. So you definitely shouldn't go above 255 characters.

    Also, IIRC, some browsers limit the length of a URI to 1024 characters.
