Text Warps and Actionscript
I wonder if someone might be able to offer some advice or some insight into using actionscript 3 to apply warping and envelope distortion effects to text in flash. I've attached two pictures with this post to show what I mean.
Here's what i've tried so far:
• Convert the text to a BitmapData object and use a displacement filter to warp it into place. I can't quite work the maths and colour theory to make this work properly.
• Using the Distort Image class written by the folks at Sandy's 3D Engine (http://www.flashsandy.org/blog/disto...s-by-code.html). An ActionScript 3 version can be found here (http://www.rubenswieringa.com/blog/distortimage). This is very good; however only seems to work with four anchor points. ie: It would only work for square/rectangle images.
I have also considered chopping the text up into individual characters and moving them around and resizing them accordingly. I think that would become a bit messy and cumbersome.
I also looked at using a Geometry Matrix. But again--like the Displacement Map filter--the maths looks quite painful.
The Flash IDE has an option to apply envelope distortion. It is found in the Modify>Transform menu. Does anyone know if this can be used in ActionScript?
I'd love to hear your thoughts and comments on this.

Have a look at the 'warped text' example at http://lab.mathieu-badimon.com/
Looks like five3d will do what you want.

Thanks EastCoast. That is what I am trying to do.
