Using stock photos/vector images in your logo

Can vector graphics from sites such istockphoto.com (paid stock photos) be used in creation of a logo for a commercial web project?

I am in a process of developing web based service and have tight budget, in other words, I cannot afford to pay a designer to design the logo, so I would rather pay for an vector icon/image.

The idea is to use the logo on the business cards, t-shirts and on the website, so ideally custom designed solution would be the best, but money is an issue.

Interested in your toughts as I could not find clear definition about this on some stock sites.

Nope. Images from stock sites are copyrighted by the artists. So you can't create a logo using a stock image since you wouldn't be able to claim rights to it. The license for most sites like istockphoto also stipulates specifically that images cannot be used in logos, among other things.

There are places that sell stock logos, like pixellogo.com, where you can purchase vector logos pretty cheaply.
