    Newbie needs help with image gallery

    Hi,

    I am using the Sitepoint book "Build Your Own Web Site the Right Way Using HTML & CSS" by Ian Lloyd. Love it. I have built my swim team website and have it hosted, although I haven't told anyone it's up yet because I can't get the 2 photo's in my image gallery to show up. When I look at the file in Firefox, the images in the image gallery are there. I also have images elsewhere that are there. I have uploaded everything with Filezilla. However, when I go "live" the 2 images in my image gallery are not there. My alt attribute does show up, just not the image. Any suggestions? I have validation for CSS and XHTML and my anchors and links are valid. Thanks. I've been pulling my hair out over this.

    Do you have the 2 missing images in the same folder as the rest of the images?

    Hi,

    No, the 2 missing images are in a separate "gallery" folder that's within my website folder under my documents. I even tried taking them out of the gallery folder and putting them with everything else, but I still couldn't get them. Here's my XHTML markup for the missing images (remember that I can see them in Firefox when I open the gallery file, just not when I look at the site "live") (sorry if I'm using incorrect jargon).

    <div class="galleryphoto">
    <img src="gallery/62008teamcheer.JPG" width="448" height="299"
    alt="June 20, 2008. Meet against DBAC. The Club Sport Tidalwaves swim team cheer. Go Club Sport!" />
    <p>The Club Sport Tidalwaves do a Team Cheer before the meet against Briarhill on June 21, 2008. <span
    class="photocredit">[Photographer: Jamie Renton]</span></p>
    </div>
    <div class="galleryphoto">
    <img src="gallery/Cathy Jetter.jpg" width="277" height="488"
    alt="What would we do without our Clerk of Course Cathy Jetter?" />
    <p>What would we do without our Clerk of Course Cathy Jetter?" <span class="photocredit">[Photographer: Jamie Renton]</span></p>
    </div>

    Any suggestions? Thanks for replying in the first place.

    May sound silly but are you sure the gallery folder has been uploaded correctly?

    I can't seem to find anything wrong with your XHTML. Can you provide a link?

    I have tried uploading the folder numerous ways. Here is the link for the gallery page that shows the image gallery pictures:

    file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Jamie%20Renton/My%20Documents/Web/Club%20Sport/gallery.html

    Site Point won't let me attach the link to my live site to this post-I don't have enough posts "under my belt" . If you go to clubsporttidalwaves.com and look at the gallery page, you will be able to see it.

    I put another image in the gallery page that I also have on another page and it does show up in the "live" gallery page...

    Should I contact the hosting company, GoDaddy.com and ask them?

    Hi,

    Ok I've had a look and it appears the files within your gallery folder have not uploaded correctly. The two files 62008teamcheer.JPG and Cathy&#37;20Jetter.jpg do exist in your root folder though so I would say the simplest way to correct this would be to amend your XHTML code to:-

    Code:
    <div class="galleryphoto">
    <img src="62008teamcheer.JPG" width="448" height="299"
    alt="June 20, 2008. Meet against DBAC. The Club Sport Tidalwaves swim team cheer. Go Club Sport!" />
    <p>The Club Sport Tidalwaves do a Team Cheer before the meet against Briarhill on June 21, 2008. <span
    class="photocredit">[Photographer: Jamie Renton]</span></p>
    </div>
    <div class="galleryphoto">
    <img src="Cathy Jetter.jpg" width="277" height="488"
    alt="What would we do without our Clerk of Course Cathy Jetter?" />
    <p>What would we do without our Clerk of Course Cathy Jetter?" <span class="photocredit">[Photographer: Jamie Renton]</span></p>
    </div>
    i.e. remove the 'gallery/' from the img src tags.

    All you then need to do is re-upload your gallery.html page and it should work.
