Selling $2000 item on Craigslist/Ebay... Best payment method?

    Hi,

I am trying to sell my video $2000 video camera on Craigslist... What is the best way to make sure I do not get scammed?

What about Ebay? Is it possible to keep myself protected when selling such an expensive item?

Is Paypal the way to go?

    Any tips?

    Thanks!
    Micky

I have only good things to say about my experience with escrow.com. Would definitely recommend it.

Yes, definitely use escrow.com...That's the best way to go.
If you do decide to sell it on Ebay you can use Paypal which also has protection for up to $2000 on a single item.

    Hope this helps

    Cool! Thanks Goralka!

    Very helpful!

Does Paypal also protect when not going through Ebay? Or should I use Ebay as an extra layer of protection?

Also, when using Ebay to sell $2000 item, and not using escrow.com, is it customary for the buyer to send the money first, and then the seller ships (after confirmation of the funds into paypal account)?

    Thanks again!!!
    Cheers,
    Micky

Actually, anyone know what happens if the buyer lies about the state of the sold item, files a claim to get money back, and sends back a broken item?

I would hate for someone to get item, break it, and say it was broke when they got it!

I guess that would be pretty ridiculous though.

mhulse, if deciding to go with paypal, I would definitely use Ebay as an extra layer of protection. The buyer then sends the money first, and then the item is shipped out. I'm not sure about your other question because I have never had that happen to me, but you could check out Paypal's site and I'm sure find some info there. Hope this helps!

Careful with selling high dollar items on Craigs List. Had a friend got hit with a scam when she tried to sell her armoire, don't remember the details but it had something to do with a bad check sent to the shipping company, she got stuck with an 1100 dollar debt.

Yes there is a lot of that going on. There's even scammer's that send you a fake money orders that look real but end up bouncing after a few weeks. So be careful!
