    REG: putting javascipt in CSS

    Hi,

    i downloaded a web template that is designed with CSS. Im gonna try my best to be as detailed as possible. I wanna integrate the fade in slideshow fm dynamic drive into my header image.
    dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex14/fadeinslideshow.htm

    However, the header image is in the CSS file and no where on the html page code.

    Here is the area of CSS code in the CSS file.

    html, body, h1, h2, h3, h4, ul, li {
    margin: 0;
    padding: 0;
    }
    h1 img {
    display: block;
    }
    img {
    border: 0;
    }
    a {
    color: #464544;
    }
    a:hover {
    color: #FFA405;
    }
    .left {
    float: left;
    }
    .right {
    float: right;
    }
    .more {
    text-align: right;
    }
    .clear {
    clear: both;
    }

    body {
    background: #E0D5B7 url(images/page_bg.jpg) repeat-x;
    text-align: center;
    font: 11px verdana, arial, sans-serif;
    color: #74653D;
    padding-bottom: 10px;
    padding-top: 31px;
    }

    /** layout **/
    #wrapper {
    text-align: left;
    margin: auto;
    width: 778px;
    position: relative;
    background: url(images/body_bg.gif) repeat-y;
    }

    #header {
    position: absolute;
    top: 0;
    left: 243px;
    width: 535px;
    height: 279px;
    background: url(images/lighton(1).jpg) no-repeat;
    }

    the image in bold i wanna make into a slideshow. The slideshow has 2 parts of js coding. 1 for the head and 1 for the body How can i go about this? Your help is appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Hi there, Welcome to SitePoint!

    However, the header image is in the CSS file and no where on the html page code.
    If you need to get the image into your html that can be done easily, just code your header div as this in the html

    Code HTML4Strict:
    <div id="header" style="background-image: url(images/lighton(1).jpg); background-repeat: no-repeat;">

    Then remove the background property from your css

    #header {
    position: absolute;
    top: 0;
    left: 243px;
    width: 535px;
    height: 279px;
    }

    Hi,

    I did try it out. Following your instructions, i removed bg property fm css- just the bg line and put it where html div was. So my css looked like this..

    /** layout **/
    #wrapper {
    text-align: left;
    margin: auto;
    width: 778px;
    position: relative;
    background: url(images/body_bg.gif) repeat-y;
    }

    #header {
    position: absolute;
    top: 0;
    left: 243px;
    width: 535px;
    height: 279px;
    }

    #left {
    float: left;
    width: 243px;
    }
    #logo {
    width: 244px;
    height: 152px;
    background: url(images/header_1.jpg) no-repeat;
    text-align: center;
    color: #595959;

    and my html looked like this...

    <body><div id="stylefour" style="width: 778px; height: 47px">
    <ul>
    <li><a title="css menus" href="">linkhere</a> </li>
    <li><a title="css menus" href="">linkhere</a> </li>
    <li><a title="css menus" href="">linkhere</a> </li>
    <li><a title="css menus" href="">linkhere</a> </li>
    <li><a class="current" title="css menus" href="">linkhere</a> </li></ul></div>
    <div id="wrapper">
    <div id="header" style="background-image: url(images/lighton(1).jpg); background-repeat: no-repeat;"></div>
    <div id="left">
    <div id="logo">

    When i save the html page, the whole coding goes bust and comes out like this...

    <div id="wrapper">
    <div id="header" style="background-image: url('images/lighton(1').jpg); background-repeat: no-repeat"></div><div id="left">
    <div id="logo">

    There must be some error in my coding. Otherwise it wouldnt end up as above after being saved.

    Any help appreciated.

    If you will post your complete html file with the doctype all the way through to the closing </html> tag

    And post your complete CSS file, then also tell me what the header image size is I can make a mock up of it and see what's going on.

    If you will high light your html after you copy it in the reply box you can click on the # sign (code tags) at the top and it will wrap it in a code box.

    Then post your complete css the same way in its own code box.

    We will see if we can find out what is going on, you can post it as it was before I gave you the changes if that is the only way you can get it all in here.

    #stylefour ul li{display:block;float:left;margin:0;}

    #stylefour ul li a:hover,#stylefour ul li a.current{color:#BE8B06;background:#fff url(images/bgON.gif) no-repeat top right;}
    }
    The image size i believe is width: 535px;
    height: 279px;

    So my main objective is to use the dynamicscriptdotcom js code and put a slideshow where the image (lighton(1).jpg) should be. So for starters, lets figure out getting that CSS bg portion onto html.

    Cheers.

    Hi amf,

    You have an invalid file path on your header image!

    Remove the brackets and rename it lighton-1.jpg

    Everything will work fine with the first code example I gave, here it is again with the new image name.

    Code:
    <div id="header" style="background-image: url(images/lighton-1.jpg); background-repeat: no-repeat;"></div>
    And here is your css again, I changed your left position from 243 to 253 to give your menu some cushion space.

    Code:
    #header {
      position: absolute;
      top: 0;
      left: 253px;
      width: 535px;
      height: 279px;
    }

    to be put in body:

    Code:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    //new fadeshow(IMAGES_ARRAY_NAME, slideshow_width, slideshow_height, borderwidth, delay, pause (0=no, 1=yes), optionalRandomOrder)
    new fadeshow(fadeimages, 535, 279, 0, 3000, 1, "R")

    </script>
    so heres what i did.
    1) i placed 1st js coding into head.
    2) i place 2nd js coding into a new file callled it javascript.js after changing width height and correctly assigning arrays, and saved javascript.js in root.
    question is how do i reference this in my html? This slideshow again, is replacing the header image; "lighton1".

    Thank you again for yr effort.

    Hi amf,

    I got it all working for you, sorry I didn't see your last reply for several hours.

    There is no need for a background image on the header div if your slideshow images are going to be the full size of the div. However, I believe you could still set a background color and or image back into the css if you desire.

    Anyway, it's a pretty neat little slideshow ( I'll have to bookmark the DynamicDrive page it came from)

    I loaded all the files with demo images into a .zip file, it may take a little while to get through pending approval.
